Does anyone know the term (if there is one) for the margin of safety in a manufacturing / utilities environment? That is, how dangerous is a machine or process allowed to be before it's too risky? That's not exactly what I mean, but... It's about some risks must be taken in the workplace--is there a term for the assessment of danger versus getting the job done? If there is any such term, is there one for danger to workers and another for danger to neighboring homes and businesses? For example, operating a car can be deadly, but we trade off the risk for the efficiency.
